Website Migration
-
Q: What precisely does website migration imply and what does it entail?
A: When your current hosting provider can no longer match the requirements of your web site, or when you face frequent network downtime, or if you are forced to wait for hours for the client support team to reply back to you, it may be a good idea to change your provider, i.e. to move all the files for your websites together with your databases from your current provider to your future provider. At eTownHost, we understand that this can often be hard & time–consuming. This is why we’ll perform all that for you for free! Our highly capable technical team members will move your web site content from your current hosting provider to us. Our technicians have got extensive experience migrating websites and are able to take care of anything – from an ordinary WordPress–powered blog or Joomla™ CMS–driven site, to an extremely complex, custom–made web application.
-
Q: Web site migration sounds like a lot of work. How long can it take?
A: While we can’t give you an exact ETA, since there are lots of variables, among them the size of the web files and databases, the location of the present host’s server, the complexity of your web site and the current workload of our Website Migration Department, etc., we will try our best to transfer your website within 48h, and in certain cases – within 24h (in case the website content is not very large).
-
Q: What details will I need to provide to your Website Migration Department?
A: Yeah. We’ll need to have the name of the website that you want us to transfer. We will also need a means to access your present web hosting account so that we can get the content pertaining to your web site.
-
Q: You will access sensitive data. How can I be sure that you won’t misuse it?
A: Our Privacy Policy is an inseparable part of the contract that we’ll have with you as a customer. We are focused on safeguarding the safety of the personal info gathered from the clients. To accomplish that, we employ technical safety measures so as to prevent the loss, the misappropriation, the modification or the unlawful leak of the personal details under our control. The safety measures include, but are not limited to: physical, electronic and administrative procedures to protect and secure the info that we obtain on the World Wide Web. When we request clients to supply financial info (for example, a credit card number), this info is shielded using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technique.
-
Q: How about downtime? Will my site be offline?
A: Your website will continue to work just like it did before with your previous web hosting provider. After we are through with the transfer, your website will be configured to work on our hosting platform and we’ll alert you to preview it. If everything is working properly, all you will have to do is update the name server records corresponding to your domain. Your website will be transferred over to us without any downtime whatsoever.
-
Q: Will my old web hosting provider need to provide any info/help?
A: While we move your content, your web hosting provider won’t be aware of the migration at all. We won’t contact them in any way.
-
Q: Which hosting platforms do you support?
A: We support all Linux–based web hosting platforms. Generally, if we can gain access to your Control Panel, we will be able to transfer your site. The only platforms that we do not support are closed–source web site building platforms like Wix, BaseKit, Jimdo, Website Tonight, Four Square, Mr Site, etc.
