Every registered domain name has at least two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a specific hosting provider. This way, you have both your website and your emails handled by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you enter a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be sent to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you could have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your site or your emails to another service provider, it is going to take you literally only 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domain names or subdomains is really easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you won't experience any problems if you decide to move your website or emails to an alternative service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you may also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
